With Ears to Hear and Eyes to See!
It was difficult for me to see Bernie endorse Hillary yesterday; many of us had hopes that he would truly be the nominee. But I can’t help but admire the way in which Bernie adjusts to the way life unfolds, surrendering very quickly, and continues on his path for the higher good to get people involved and to achieve the changes our country needs at this point in time. He has changed the discussion of our political trajectory in one short year. As he has said many times, this election is not about him, it is about us_what we will do, how we will be involved in our government, what we will demand from our governmental leaders.
Change always occurs from the bottom up! If Hillary becomes president, everything is in place for us to demand the changes that our people and our country need; if Trump were to become president, we will be on a downward spiral. Do we need to be for enough of the collective to “wake up” and become more conscious of what is going on? To suffer more before we demand change? I don’t think so; I hope not. It seems like the opening for change and for regaining our power is here if we resolve to take it. It does not come from ego and it is not power over another; it is standing in our power for the good of the whole. Fairness, equality. Not self-serving but having the maturity to see how all can prosper when we honor and respect each other and our places within the whole.
I remember how I felt when Bush was elected the second time, knowing that the first election had been stolen. It was beyond reason to me that he could be elected a second time; I couldn’t get out of bed for four days. But after a while, I realized that many of us saw the truth of what had happened_ the election, the Iraq War, the Patriot Act_ but not enough people for a collective shift to happen. It took another four years before enough people would “get it” and be motivated to do something about it. We are still in that process. Although many positive things have happened with Obama as president, they were not the deep change we voted for and hoped for_ the changes that Bernie is speaking to now. True change from a system that is not working anymore in all facets of government_ campaign finance, voting rights, our congress and senate. How did we get here where congressmen can make $174,000 a year, refuse to bring up important legislation for a vote when it is supported by huge majorities of people, and take more “vacation time” every year to avoid doing what they have been elected to do? It makes no sense.
Through Bernie’s efforts, we are much more conscious now of the problems in our voting laws, income and wealth inequality, horrendous trade policies, our broken criminal justice system, and our people’s lack of access to affordable health care and higher education. He fought aggressively to address the crisis of climate change, the need for real comprehensive immigration reform, the importance of developing a foreign policy that values diplomacy over war, and so much more. It’s time for us to take over now. There’s been a “coup” going on in our country for some time now as corporations take over what was once our democracy. If Trump is allowed to be elected, it will be all over. We are not powerless in the face of this threat. Please be involved in this election cycle, do your homework on the issues, have a voice, vote your conscience and pray on a regular basis. We need to “hold the light” during this chaotic time staying grounded, aligned and consciously connected to who we really are amidst the chaos rather than get caught up in it! That is real power_spiritual power. We need to remember to use it!
